THE 2005 Belgian Championships were held in Wachtebeke in East Flanders - coincidentally a venue that has just been awarded a round of the World Cup next season.

In the TV coverage below, World Under-23 champion Kevin Pauwels is beaten by Jan Soetens and Niels Albert which is followed later by the elite men's battle where Sven Nys - looking for his third title - faces World champion Bart Wellens (elite men at 40:45).

Nys says the Swiss Dübendorf course will be heavy this weekend and the strongest riders will win.

"Take Note. On Sunday we get an old-fashioned mud cross. # lead-heavy No tactical games. Simply the best rider wins the cross here. BK Wachtebeke is closest to this course." - Sven Nys.

The racing all kicks off at 11:00 CET on Saturday with the Under-19 women, many regions (including the UK) can watch via the Red Bull TV website or the UCI feed. There will be some coverage on the BBC Red Button but not necessarily all races or live - details here. Failing that, consider getting yourself to Dübendorf for the weekend!
