Brico Cross, Geraardsbergen - Belgian 'cross kicks off!

World champion Wout Van Aert began the Belgian cyclocross season with a victory over a fast and dry course based around the Muur van Geraardsbergen. Van Aert successfully caught and passed Michael Vanthourenhout after the latter had attacked at the bell. Vanthourenhout's Marlux-Napoleon Games team had strength in numbers and Kevin Pauwels finishing in fourth place gave them three riders in the top four. The spectacular Muur course was the first of a new series of six Brico Cross races that will be televised. Sanne Cant won a sprint finish to take victory in the elite women's race.

RESULTS: Elite men: 1 Wout van Aert; 2 Michael Vanthourenhout; 3 Klaas Vantornout; 4 Kevin Pauwels; 5 Corne van Kessel; 6 Laurens Sweeck.
